Cheza Ngoma is a Finnish association of African dance and music. The association was founded in 1997 in Tampere by a group African dance enthusiasts. The association organizes weekly dance and drumming classes in Tampere. Menard Mponda, a Tanzanian musician, dancer and choreographer, has taught the group from the beginning.
The classes for adults include traditional African dances, Ndombolo and drumming. There are also classes for families with small children, school age children and youth.
Everybody is welcome to the African dance classes, regardless of their dancing background. During the classes we practice the basics of African dance and rhytms, traditional Tanzanian dances, songs and Menard Mponda’s own choreographies.
At the drumming classes we learn to play traditional Tanzanian rhythms with the ngoma drums.
The performing group of the association has performed at various parties and events, including the yearly Fest Afrika event at Tampere. In case you already have experience in African dances and you are interested in joining the performing group, you can ask us more at the regular classes.
